DACOWITS History of Recommendations - Spring Conference 1999

1. Equality Management

DACOWITS continues to recommend the Secretary of Defens's policy statement on equal opportunity, sexual harassment, and unlawful discrimination be incorporated into Department of Defense Directives (DoDD) 1350.2 and 1440.0 and Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1350.3 as soon as possible.DACOWITS further recommends that the Service Secretaries and Service Chiefs provide DACOWITS their personal policy statements and their implementing plans on this issue before the 1999 Fall Conference.

2. Forces Development & Utilization

DACOWITS strongly recommends to the Secretary of Defense that the Army be directed to open Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) to the assignment of women.This recommendation warrants personal review by the Secretary of Defense.

3. Forces Development & Utilization

DACOWITS recommends in the strongest possible terms that the Secretary of Defense open current and future Special Operations Forces (SOF) rotary wing aviation to the assignment of women.This recommendation remains in effect until full implementation is achieved, and SOF rotary wing aviation is opened to women.This recommendation warrants personal review by the Secretary of Defense.

4. Quality of Life

DACOWITS recommends that the Integrated Process Team (IPT) assembled by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) that identifies and implements efficiencies in the uniform system continue to implement the recommendations of the Military Uniform Task Force Final Report.DACOWITS recommends that the IPT examine the standardization and improvement of Battle Dress Uniforms (BDUs).

5. Quality of Life

DACOWITS recommends that the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs vigorously pursue completion and analysis of the Reserve Health Care Summit Report and the 746 study and report to Congress.

6. Quality of Life

DACOWITS recommends that the Office of Family Policy examine how to extend its programs to provide access and availability to Reserve Forces.
