DACOWITS History of Recommendations - Fall Conference 1997

Recommendations:

1. Equality Management
DACOWITS recommends that the Secretary of Defense take appropriate actions to promote command climates which ensure human dignity on overseas installations.

The focus should be on (1) dignified treatment of U.S. service members, civilian employees, DOD contract employees and family members by host foreign nationals and (2) dignified treatment of host foreign nationals by U.S. service members, civilian employees, DOD contract employees and family members.

2. Equality Management
DACOWITS recommends that all military services adopt the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) core questions, as a minimum, when studying sexual harassment and race/ethnic issues.

3. Forces Development and Utilization Subcommittee
DACOWITS recommends that the Army code all General Officer command level Command Sergeants Major positions open to the assignment of both women and men.

4. Forces Development and Utilization Subcommittee
DACOWITS recommends that the Army revise its General Officer level Command Sergeant Major (CSM) selection process.This process should establish notification, application, screening, and selection procedures for filling projected General Officer level CSM vacancies which allow all eligible CSMs to apply for consideration.

5. Quality of Life
DACOWITS recommends that each service establish a women's health curriculum for providers that would be applicable for each level of care, using the American Medical Women's Association recommended curriculum as a model.
